
Winston County Librarian Beth Edwards to be honored at the 2026 NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet

Librarian Beth Edwards will be honored and given the Mary White Ovington Diversity Award at the 43rd Annual Freedom Fund Banquet on Saturday, April 25, 2026. This award is for an individual who exemplifies the spirit and perseverance of Mary White Ovington who is the co-founder of the NAACP along with W. E. B. Dubois. Beth always had diversity and inclusion in mind as she planned activities, ordered books and multimedia for the patrons at the library. Mary White Ovington pushed for diversity and inclusion as she worked for social justice in America.
Ironically, Beth is being honored during National Library Week which is this week. Beth is resigning from the Winston County Library after 29 years on June 30, 2026.
