Visiting Jewel McDonald, the Oldest Man in the USA

It was exiciting and a pleasure to visit Mr. Major Jewel McDonald a few days after it was published that he was the oldest living man in the USA. Most exciting was that he is a 'homeboy' who lives in Louisville, MS. He was born here, migrated to Cleveland, OH and moved back to Louisville after retirement in 1983.

Mr. McDonald and his  wife Brenda greeted his 2nd cousin Charles Hampton, the former president of the Winston County Branch NAACP,  and this writer with pleasure into their home. He humbly said, "Yes I heard that I am the oldest man at 110 in the USA." When asked how he made it with such longevity? He responded that it was just God's blessings. He was very concerned about the wellbeing of his sister-in-law Shelia Carter Graham who was hospitalized. He asked for prayers for her. Every since this writer has known him, he has been a loving selfless man. 

His beautiful 76 year old wife, stated that he doesn't do much, i.e., cooking his breakfast  any more. He will not be attending the Mt. Olive COGIC Church's picnic because he is somewhat weak but he welcomed relatives visits. Charles was pleased to hear the history of his mother and her relationship to Mr. McDonald.
