WLSM was proud to be a part of a Winston County tradition; for the past few years, Veterans Affairs County Officer, Bobby Bowman, has sought the assistance of the station in producing a musical tribute during a memorial and honorary ritual to remember those of Winston County who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Most locals are aware of the memorial statue that is erected on the courthouse grounds. This monument lists the locals we lost in various foreign wars.

Every Memorial Day morning, veterans gather at the Courthouse to lower the flag to half-staff in memory of those who did not make it back home. WLSM produces a patriotic program to accompany the event, and the names of those Winston County lost is read aloud as a part of the broadcast.
