AMERICA 250 WINSTON COUNTY MISSISSIPPI AMERICA Announces Celebration Plans

AMERICA 250 WINSTON COUNTY MISSISSIPPI.   What is this all about?  What are we celebrating?  Well, we are celebrating the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.  That’s two hundred and fifty years of freedom or what is now being referred to as a semi-quincentennial.

Some of you may remember the celebration we had for our bicentennial year in 1976.  That was the 100-year anniversary, and we celebrated with all of the pomp and ceremony that it deserved.  We want to do things even bigger for the 250-year birthday of our nation.

The Declaration of Independence is one of the most beautiful and important political documents in history.  It not only proclaimed American independence from Great Britian, it also enshrined Americans’ natural rights as the cornerstone of our republic.   God has continued to bless the United States throughout its rich and diverse history.

The stance of those early patriots on tyranny and oppression was both noble and courageous.  They risked their lives, their families, and their destinies for a belief in freedom that no one can put a price on.  You see, freedom is not free, nor will it ever be!

On July 4, 2026, America will celebrate the most important milestone in our country’s history, 250 years of American Independence.  With a single sheet of parchment and fifty-six signatures, America began the greatest political journey in human history. What makes our American Revolution unique is that it changed the very concept of government.  Here was a new nation telling the world that the power ultimately resides in “We the People”.  This historic milestone honors the nation’s founding principles of liberty and self-government while also reflecting on how those ideals have evolved over two and a half centuries.  Through exhibits, programs, and community involvement throughout our entire nation, the America 250 initiative will serve as both a celebration of American history and an invitation to consider the nation’s continuing pursuit of a more perfect union.

The mission of America 250 Winston County is to honor not just our nation’s past, but our county’s past as well, to celebrate its present, and to strengthen patriotism in its citizens.  This is a celebration for the entire county to participate.  To do this, though, we need your help.  We want every citizen in Winston County to celebrate, to commemorate, and develop a deep appreciation for our freedom and our blessings from God.

America 250 Winston County will be celebrated all year.  All events will be posted on WLSM, City of Louisville, and Chamber websites and publicized in the Winston County Journal. They can also beviewed on  Noxapater Community Chamber Alliance Facebook and Nanih Waiya Community Park Facebook pages.

The overall theme of our celebrations is GOD-FAMILY-COUNTRY. We want flags flying everywhere and patriotic celebrations all year long.   Store owners are encouraged to decorate their store windows with red, white, and blue.   Individuals are encouraged to fly their American flags and decorate the outside of their homes in patriotic décor.  We urge pastors and churches to have special God-Family-Country themed services to reiterate the importance of patriotism within the church, community, and country.  There will be something everyone can participate in all year.  It is up to us to spread the word, get involved, and show up with helping hands and willing hearts.  Let’s make this year the year of flags flying high all over Winston County and patriotism and faith in God like we’ve never seen before.  Let’s make this a true celebration our children and grandchildren will remember and will tell their children about in fifty years, at America’s 300th birthday!!

our theme of GOD-FAMILY-COUNTRY should resonate within our work, our churches, and our schools for the rest of the year.  It is up to us to ensure that our flag continues to wave over a free and united people.  Let us move forward with confidence, united in our purpose, and dedicated to the enduring ideals of our great nation, blessed and ordained by God.  May we always honor the sacrifices that have made us free.  May God bless Winston County, Mississippi, and the United States of America!
