For many years Eiland Middle School (EMS) has celebrated Black History Month with students presenting Black History figures as in a wax museum, dressing like the figure, creating a story board and telling the story to the audience. This year it was postponed for several days due to a horrific crime that happened to one of its students. However, Dr. Melissa Davis Tisdale, Acting Principal and the EMS Black History Committee decided to rescheduled it on February 26, 2026, 5:30 p.m. It happened and was a wonderful event with the students being happy that their creative work was presented. Theme: A Century of "Black History Commemorations - Mississippi in Black History". Program Mover was Jamarion Green; prayer by Ty' Karri Carter; welcome by Genesis Scott; selection by EMS Choir; door prizes given and remarks by Dr. Tisdale.

Some of the Black History Wax people acknowledged: Frederick Douglas, Oprah Winfrey, SoJourner Truth, Richard Wright, Fredrick O'Neal, James Meridith, Muddy Waters, Randy Norwood, B. B. King, Mae Jemison, Leontyne Price, Anne Spenscer, Ruby Bridges and others. (Readers research for them, if you don't know them)

The Kiwanis Club of Louisville, with president artist Glendia Cooper, was there to support the event as they always do, with book markers that had quotes by Black History figures on the back, to give to everyone. Truth One Christian Church provided soup and refreshments.
This writer, Elmetra Eichelberger Patterson provided an exhibit of former educators that worked for the Louisville Municipal school district at the building where EMS is located presently.
