On July 1, the Town of Noxapater held its monthly Board of Aldermen meeting. However, Mayor Sammy Carter noted that, with three new board members elected in June, he could not officially open the board meeting without the swearing in of the new members.
Municipal Judge Taylor Tucker was on hand to carry out this responsibility. He opened the ceremony with remarks honoring his friend, the Honorable David Wilson, who was the municipal judge for the Town of Noxapater for many years. Tucker noted that it was a honor to be there, but that it was also bittersweet because the occasion reminded him of the service of Judge Wilson.
Brandon Burrage, Bobby Pierce, and Faye Glass were all sworn in individually. Burrage and Glass are both carrying on a family tradition of serving on the Town of Noxapater Board of Aldermen. Burrage is the third generation of his family to serve The Town of Noxapater, and Faye Glass’ mother, Tenie Quinn, was the first woman to serve on Noxapater’s Board of Aldermen.
Tucker then swore into office the two incumbent board members, Terry Kelly and Tommy Bartholomew, along with Mayor Sammy Carter.
The mayor then called the meeting to order.
