Earlier this month, Louisville Municipal School District announced that the district had been awarded a Pre-K grant to invest in the children of the district.

This grant will allow for the district to add three additional pre-K classrooms, which will be housed at Fair Elementary School in Louisville. Applications are still open as of press time, and Fair Principal Sarah Webb added that the school will now be able to serve a total of 80 pre-K students.

An end to COVID-era funds had cut the program from two classrooms to one, which meant the district could only support one pre-K classroom. Webb noted that the district applied for the SIP (State-invested Pre-k) monies in March 2025. Plans are to have four pre-K classrooms when school starts in August.

Webb also said that this grant will pay for classroom supplies, furniture and equipment, funding for professional development, three new teachers and their assistants.

This grant will last for three years. Each pre-K student will receive free breakfast and lunch, and they will get to experience the enrichment of art, physical education, the library, and learn computer skills.

In total, twenty districts across the state (which is home to 162 public school districts) were awarded a total of $24 million in pre-K grant funds. LMSD was awarded $1.5 million.

To be eligible for the LMSD pre-K program, potential students must be 4 years of age on or before August 31 and they must be potty-trained. Parents will need to have proof of residency (for the district) and must have the child's birth certificate. Webb encouraged interested parents to come by the Fair Elementary school to pick up an application.
