The cooler temps of Wednesday morning came in after strong storms in Winston County. A line of thunderstorms moved through most of the state on Tuesday. After lunch, the temperature began to drop and wind gusts moved in.
As a precaution, local schools closed one hour early. The Louisville Safe Room was opened just after noon, and many Winston County businesses closed early in order to allow their employees to get home before the storms moved in.
Tommie Gardner of Noxapater reported just over two inches of rain by 7 PM Tuesday evening. Around the county, water pooled in fields and in ditches along the roads due to the large amount of rain falling so quickly in a short amount of time. However, no flooding was reported in the county.
Governor Tate Reeves announced via social media that three deaths could be attributed to the storm. Two deaths took place in Madison County. In one case, a downed power line caused the death of an individual. The second Madison County death took place on the Natchez Trace Parkway; a tree fell on a vehicle. The third death took place in Stonewall; a woman died when a tree limb fell and struck her while she was in an electric wheelchair.
