Floyce Dean Adcock Shumaker, 87, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 8 at New Hope Baptist Church in Attala County with Reverends Terrell Mayo and Adelbert Adcock officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 12:00 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Interment will immediately follow the service in Macedonia Cemetery in Attala County.

Dean was born July 29, 1937, to Samuel and Jessie Mae Adcock in Attala County. She loved her family, her church and her community. She was employed for many years at Walmart in Kosciusko, Mississippi. While there, she became a manager over the yard and garden department. She left her position to come home and lovingly take care of her husband who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s until his passing in 2003. She enjoyed working in her yard, visiting with her “widow lady” friends whether playing games or going out to eat and traveling to gospel singings and conferences. She always had a smile and encouraging or comical word for those she met. She was a prayer warrior for all.

Dean is survived by her children: Kathy Jones (Wayne) of Louisville; Ronald Shumaker (Beverly) of Laurel, Mississippi; and Karen Livingston (Sam) of Madison, Mississippi. One of her greatest joys was being “Granny Dean” to her grandchildren: Justin Thompson (Hailey), Rhyne Thompson (Jessi), Clayton Shumaker (Elisa), Adam Livingston (Phoebe), Branden Livingston (Katie), Chloe Livingston, Shanda Barnett (Matt), and Shea Thompson (Craig). She is also survived by her 12 great-grandchildren: Ethan Thompson, Peyton Thompson, Kellyn Thompson, Karsyn Thompson, Kooper Thompson, Kohen Thompson, Lydia Barnett, Tripp Thompson, Kaleb Shumaker, Myles Shumaker, Harper Shumaker, and Theodore Livingston. Dean leaves behind her brother, Reverend Marlon Adcock (Susan); in addition to her loving nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Ralph Shumaker; her parents; and her brother, Doyle Adcock (Shirley).

Serving as pallbearers are Justin Thompson, Rhyne Thompson, Adam Livingston, Branden Livingston, Clayton Shumaker, Ethan Thompson, and Kaleb Shumaker. Memorials in honor of Dean may be given to New Hope Baptist Church, 6917 Attala Road 5216, Kosciusko, MS 39090.
